Finally, Chen Wei led a team to hold an online video exchange with the Appeal Committee of the European Patent Office£®EPO Boards of Appeal£©, which ended the event perfectly.

In the the 7th Joint Experts Group for Trial and Appeal (JEGTA) among JPO, KIPO and CNIPA Video-conference, the three parties exchanged views on the status of the three offices, oral proceedings, COVID-19 epidemic Countermeasures, and the linkage mechanism between the Patent Office and the courts. The comparative study on the reexamination process and reexamination standards provides empirical materials that can be used for reference for the further development and improvement of China's reexamination invalidation system; the timely and effective measures taken by our Department in response to the COVID-19 epidemic have also been highly praised by Japan and Korea.

The bilateral exchanges between China and Japan, China and South Korea, and China and Europe focus on case studies. In the three parties’ exchanges, a hypothetical case of business method is involved. Comparative studies on the same case make the focus of discussion more concentrated, and provide reference for reexamination standards on hot fields.

In the next step, under the guidance and support of the International Department of CNIPA, the Patent Reexamination and Invalidation Department will continue to deepen international exchanges with other reexamination agencies, and provide assistance for the smooth progress of the quality and efficiency improvement of CNIPA.
